Reborning Information

<< Please take a look at the reborn process page >>

Reborn dollís are not always bought by collectors, Some times they have helped bereaved parents in the loss of their newly born baby. And have been a comfort to the elderly. Also they have been used in films and stage plays. Schools have also used them in educational parent classes, And my granddaughters nativity play at her school

They have also been bought for young girls and even with all the love and attention they receive I have never had one returned that wanted attention.

Each baby starts out as a blank silicone vinyl /vinyl doll kit.

First of all I gave the kit a good wash and air dry to clear off any residues from the manufacturing process before starting to transform them into the beautiful babies you can see on my website.

I then paint them over two days with my own blend of Genesis paints which are heat set so the paint will never rub off or fade, the paint is built up in many thin layers some times as many as nine or even more to achieve the colour and to give the skin a real 3D effect with shadowing and different tones where you would see them on a young baby .

I give each baby delicate blushing and veins in all the right places, the skin looks lifelike and is slightly blotchy here and there but not overly blushed, the lips are slightly stained to give a natural look we donít want to look as though baby has lipstick on, sometimes a light gloss is added to lips to make the lips look slightly wet.

I also slightly stain the finger nails and very thinly tip the nails with my own blend of nail tip colour and also lightly gloss the nails to give a slight sheen we donít want baby to look as though it has gloss nail polish on.

The mohair I use for rooting the hair is just stunning and is imported from the U.S.A. and Canada, the lovely soft hair takes me many, many hours over several days to root 1 or 2 hairs at a time but the result is so worth it. It is then sealed inside so you can slightly dampen and restyle

Each baby is then weighted and filled with the best quality fillings, I use sand like glass granules in the limbs so there is no crunching sound and it gives the baby a lovely squishy feel, the body is weighted with a combination of heavyweight poly pellets and occasionally steel shot in sealed bags to add weight and best quality soft fibre filling in the tummy and bottom so the baby is nice and cuddly. All topped off with heavyweight fibre fill until they feel and weigh just right including weighting the head so it is floppy So they need their head supporting just like a real baby would.

All my babies have to pass the cuddle test before they are ready to leave the nursery!

Sometimes I am asked to give babies birth marks or blemishes also milk spots and spit bubbles they can also be given cry boxes and hart boxes which for a few moments makes baby look and sound even more lifelike.

Reborn artists like myself never stop learning and are always looking for even more ways to make these dolls look like babies
